The town of Playa Jaco was once a sleepy, quiet and largely unheard of destination. The surfers and beach lovers that actually knew of the location kept it a well guarded secret as they did not wish for Playa Jaco to become a spot on the tourist map.
Well their plan backfired because now it is an extremely popular holiday destination and surfers from far and wide visit the Playa Jaco beach. The surfers are not the only people to make themselves at home in Playa Jaco though as numerous visitors ended up wishing to retire and claim their own slice of paradise.
Playa Jaco is still a popular place and the extra residents make the location a friendlier destination. The nightlife is just like one long beach party and is very vibrant and exciting; Playa Jaco is certainly more of a young or young at heart person's town; however there are other more sedate activities to take part in including horse riding and various water sports.
You can catch a glimpse of the dazzling scarlet macaws if you visit the Carara Biological Reserve as this is one of their nesting grounds, the birds migrate on a daily basis and if you happen to be in the reserve at either sunset or sunrise you will stand a higher chance of viewing these magnificent birds.
