Bariloche boasts an extremely picturesque position nestled in the foothills of the majestic Patagonian Andes mountain range and surrounded by several glacial lakes including the Moreno and Mascardi lakes and mountains other than the Andes; one of these is Tronador an extinct volcano and also a ski resort.

The city also has another point in its favour and that is the fact that it sits within the Nahuel Huapi National Park. This is the oldest Argentine national park being established in the year 1934. There is plenty of wildlife including the elusive river otter and the graceful condor.

If you are looking to ski then you should visit the Cerro Catedral Mountain which is approximately 12 miles from the city of Bariloche. The ski resort is the largest throughout South America and has a ski area of 2km².

Bariloche was founded in the year 1902 and has plenty to offer its visitors besides its outstandingly beautiful setting. If you like clothes shopping then head to Arbol as they have the latest fashions along with lots of ceramics and lovely decorative displays. The city is known as the 'chocolate capital of Argentina' and visitors are confronted with displays of tempting chocolate delights in just about each and every shop window.

La Mexicana was the first chocolate store to open in the city of Bariloche and this was in 1948, the chocolate sold here is reputed to be one of the tastiest worldwide.
