The city of Oaxaca is a true historian's playground steeped in culture. The Iglesia de Santo Domingo is a splendid spectacle to observe, it is the finest church in the city. The church was constructed between 1570 and 1608 as a part of the Dominican's monastery. Situated behind the Iglesia de Santo Domingo are the beautiful Jardin Etnobotanico Gardens they feature numerous plants not least of all the cactus plant in several different forms.

If enjoy browsing around market stalls then make sure that you visit the Central de Abastos as this is a huge, main market in the city of Oaxaca. There are household goods for sale, clothing, art items and plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables on offer. Fancy trying some homemade waffles for breakfast? If you do then stop in at the Cafe Brujula, where they also serve fresh fruit smoothies, salads and freshly baked bread.

For a dining experience that is slightly more up market try the La Toscana, this is a very elegant restaurant serving dishes that are different to the normal such as beef medallions with a gorgonzola sauce lightly drizzled over the top.
