LAS FUNCIONES DEL SUSTANTIVO

1. Núcleo del Sujeto:

El sujeto gramatical está expresado por el morfema personal incluido en la terminación del verbo: comió (3ª pers. sg),comen (3ª pers. plu), canta(3ª pers. sg), cantas (2ª pers. sg).

Cuando interesa precisar la alusión de la tercera persona, se añade un sustantivo: el niño comió; María va a la escuela.

La relación de dependencia entre el sustantivo y la terminación verbal se llama concordancia.

Cuando el sujeto es un sustantivo colectivo, la concordancia es en singular con la terminación verbal: la gente salía alborotada.

They don’t have a fixed position in the phrase and they function as circumstantial complements. In Spanish, there are adverbial locutions that function in the same way as an adverb, and we’ll see how an adjective can function as an adverb.

The prepositions are invariable words that introduce a prepositional phrase. They subordinate a noun, adjective, adverb or a verb as well as non-personal forms. They carry out a linking function in the phrase.

Remember that the infinitives classify the verbs in three conjugations according to their ending: “ar,” “er,” and “ir.”
